Lenten Reading Ideas for Catholic Moms

I wanted to offer a few ideas for books to read during Lent. These are some of my favorites:

Breastfeeding and Catholic Motherhood really was the inspiration for Pam and Gina to start the Catholic Nursing Mothers League back in 2006.

Although The Handbook for Catholic Mothers is not specifically written for breastfeeding moms, it has great information on all aspects of the vocation of motherhood including the spiritual aspects. I attempted to lead a study of this book in the CNML Motherhood Group on facebook about a year ago, but it was difficult to get enough moms together who wanted to read it and discuss it. I am happy to try again - maybe in the main Facebook group - if there is interest.

The Bible studies from Walking with Purpose are really lovely. This one, in particular, is nice because it only lasts six weeks - about as long as Lent. If anyone would like to do this Bible study together either on the CNML Facebook group or even on a zoom call, I am happy to set it up!

I really enjoy Gary Zimak’s books! He is very down to earth and is very open about his anxiety and worry troubles. This book is nice because it follows the season of Lent.

It has been a while since I have read The Domestic Church. I wanted to mention it because it does have a small section on ecological breastfeeding and both Sheila Kippley and Lisa Hendey both wrote endorsements for it.

I wanted to include A High Calling even though it is not a Catholic book. The author is Christian, though, and talks about God throughout it. This book promotes following the design of the Creator in terms of motherhood and breastfeeding. If you would like to receive a copy of this book as a gift from CNML, please email us!

Another one of my favorites! Rediscover Jesus is broken down into short passages that are perfect for the days of Lent. It is free on Dynamic Catholic’s website. All you need to do is pay for shipping.

I thought of another book that is great for Lent - Divine Mercy for Moms. It is especially geared towards moms and discusses lots of ways to live out the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. It also talks about Jesus’s great mercy throughout it.

Are there any other books you recommend for Lenten reading? If so, I would love to hear about them! Mention them in the comment section to this post.
