The Easter Story & Breastfeeding as Unconditional Love
Lately I have been thinking about unconditional love. Love is the very essence of God and what God the Father shows each one of us by the death and resurrection of His only Son, Jesus: the Easter story.
Maybe you are a mom of a newborn baby. You might feel like all you are doing right now is changing diapers and nursing. However, you are doing something very special! Sure, the world might say caring for your baby (and your children) is not important, but the world is often wrong about the most important things! You are doing the BEST thing!
The breastfeeding relationship is your baby’s first glimpse of the world outside of the womb and of God’s unconditional love. It is where your baby learns to trust you and to trust God and experiences love in a very tangible way.
Some might say it is extravagant to nurse on demand day and night, to comfort your baby at your breast, and to keep your baby close to you as much as possible. However, God is extravagant with us due to His unconditional love so shouldn’t we do the same for our babies since we are reflections of the Creator?
Breastfeeding is such a beautiful way to show love. I know some days (and nights) feel like they will go on forever! I have been there, too! However, my hope is that you will look back fondly on all your months or years of nursing and treasure the memories in your heart just like Mary is said to have treasured her experiences in her heart in the Gospels.
