Motherhood is a Crown of Beauty

Motherhood and taking care of my family is my life's work. Yes, I do have other important parts of my life, but being a mom is my crown of beauty.

In the Walking with Purpose Bible study, Living in the Father's Love, it says:

“Why pursue earthly beauty, which will soon slip through your fingers, when there is a much greater beauty that awaits you in the love that you have given to your Lord? Each woman has her calling. The demands of love are unique for each. Some love the Lord in their virginity. Others love Him in a holy marriage with an earthly husband, raising children as Our Lady raised Jesus. Motherhood is a crown of beauty for the woman who loves well.”

All our stretch marks, all those months or years of nursing, all those diaper changes, all those read alouds and movie nights snuggled with our children on the couch, and all those late night chats with teens and adult children are jewels in our crowns.

What children will really remember is all those little things that you did for them and with them such as Sunday morning pancakes or going to the park or taking them to soccer practice. Those moments add up to something beautiful. Especially nursing moms: think about how many times your baby nurses in a week or a month. Quite a lot! All that mama’s milk nourishes your baby’s physical body, and all those precious times together while breastfeeding nourish your baby’s emotional life. Your baby is learning what love is through breastfeeding!

Your calling to motherhood is part of God’s plan for you. Just as it was God’s plan for Mary to give birth to and care for Jesus, it is God’s plan for you to love and nurture your child(ren). Whether you have one child or ten, taking care of each individual soul is God’s special assignment for you.
